Reimbursement through your hospitalisation or outpatient insurance

How to request reimbursement from your outpatient or hospitalisation insurance, and why you should check your own policy first.

If you have outpatient or hospitalisation insurance, there is a good chance that part of your consultation will be reimbursed. Insurance often covers more than the contribution from your health insurance fund. You pay for your consultation yourself first and then request reimbursement from your insurer.

If you are insured with DKV, read "Reimbursement through DKV Nova". It explains the quickest route, via the DKV app.

How to request it

  1. Check your own policy. Coverage differs from contract to contract, so a phone call or a look in your insurer's app will tell you in advance what to expect.

  2. Download your proof of consultation. After your consultation, you will find it in your Skindr account. Your proof of payment is attached to the email in which we confirmed your payment. Read "Where do I find my proof of payment or proof of consultation?"

  3. Submit your request following your insurer's procedure. Your insurer handles the reimbursement from there. We are no longer involved at that stage.

What to expect from the documents

Skindr documents do not contain NIHDI or nomenclature codes, because these do not exist for online dermatology.

Most outpatient insurers accept them as they are. Some do require those codes, in which case the request will not succeed. Read "I need a certificate with NIHDI codes", so that you know this beforehand and not afterwards.

If your insurer refuses

Let us know which insurer it was and what they said. We cannot overturn their decision, but it helps us to know which conversations we need to have.
