Can I ask medical questions by email?

Why medical questions belong in your consultation, what to do if you suspect a side effect and when to call 112.

You should not ask medical questions by email. That is deliberate, because they belong in your consultation. There are two reasons for this.

The first is that our support team is not a medical team. They are not allowed to give you advice about dosage, side effects or whether to continue a treatment, and you would not want them to.

The second is your file. In your consultation, your dermatologist follows along and has your photos, your history and your treatment plan to hand. An email sits completely outside of that.

Where you can go instead

  • Is your consultation still open? Ask your question in the chat. It costs you nothing.

  • Has it been closed? Contact us at [email protected] or through the chat. You can find all the options at skindr.com/contacteer-ons. We will check whether it can be reopened, or you can schedule a follow-up yourself. Read ‘My consultation has been closed, but my question has not been answered’.

  • Is it about a new problem? Start a new consultation, because it needs its own assessment.

If you suspect a side effect

Contact us straight away at [email protected] or through the chat, and we will put it to a dermatologist. Do not wait for your follow-up.

If the reaction becomes severe or quickly gets worse, contact your GP now and do not wait for us.

If it cannot wait

Call 112, or your GP if they can see you immediately, in any of these situations:

  • difficulty breathing, a tight throat, or swelling of your face, mouth or throat

  • a severe allergic reaction

  • a large or deep burn

  • fever together with a rash that is spreading quickly

  • blistering or peeling skin over a large area

  • you feel very unwell on top of your skin complaint

This needs care within minutes, and Skindr cannot provide that, not even with a consultation within 24 hours.

If it is urgent but not an emergency

Think of a rash that is spreading, a painful flare-up, something that looks inflamed or a reaction to a new product. In that case, start a consultation with the within 24 hours option, even at the weekend. You do not need to wait.
